The 50th Birthday of the mini was a terrific event! Held under, what most people would describe as typical UK weather, the turn-out of mini owners at Kallang, Singapore was overwhelming. Armed with umbrellas that matched the colour of their minis, light drizzle didn't dampen spirits one bit. In fact, the cool climate made it more comfortable to peruse the line up of over 30 cars and mingle with other mini owners. Kids were having fun drawing Mr Bean's mini while their parents were gasping for air, trying to inflate balloons! Highlight of the day was Iain's race mini which was fresh out of Swiftune, UK. He'll be attempting to break Andrew's Sepang lap record of 2.42min. Best of luck Iain! ;) The day's Guest of Honour who flagged off the event was none other than Andrew Crombie, Sepang F1 Circuit's fastest official mini driver.
The drive brought mini owners to both the Western and Eastern parts of Singapore. Games tested driving skills and knowledge about mini trivia. Glad to hear that most did very well! (Email me if you want the answers.) The finishing point was at Marina South Pier where Mike's lifesize mini 'birthday cake' was a huge hit with the crowd. Even Mr Bean joined in! Raymond had a good work out pushing minis into their respective parking spaces. Hmm... this would make an interesting game.... Fortunately, he had Mr Chia's kids assisting!
The group photo session around the 50th mini 'birthday cake' had the Riverboat in the backdrop. On board the Riverboat, we were entertained with good live music, excellent food and treated to a screening of race mini video footage compiled by Andrew. Impressive stuff! Gurmit did a terrific job of thanking all those who helped make the event a success, especially the mini owners. Classic Mini Singapore wouldn't be possible without your passion, dedication and enthusiasm.
